Just a short distance from the future home of Edgewater, the best female golfers in the world will be convening on July 5th at Oakmont Country Club for the 2010 U.S. Women’s Open. The historic course has played host to countless men’s and women’s golf tournaments over the years, most recently the men’s 2007 U.S. Open. That event proved that Oakmont is a course not easily tamed as the champion, Angel Cabrera, finished at 5 over par for the tournament. From the chuch pew bunkers to the picturesque Allegheny River to the small town atmosphere, Oakmont provides the ideal setting for both spectators and television audience members. The course is known as “the oldest top-ranked golf course in the U.S.” and was rated 5th overall by Golf Digest just last year. Next week, make sure to keep your eyes open as Edgewater will be unveiling a community banner and will have a notable presence as the ladies compete for the U.S. Open title. And come 2016, when the men revisit the course, Edgewater and its residents will be part of the charm that makes Oakmont the best place in the country for championship golf.
