The annual Oakmont-Verona Twin Boro 5K race will be benefiting a little boy in need this year.

The race will be held on Saturday, June 9. Registration begins at 7:30 a.m. at Riverside Park in Oakmont. The race begins at 9 a.m. and will led runners on a 3.1-mile loop through Oakmont and Verona. The cost is $20.

Proceeds from the race will support Tanner’s Troopers, a group dedicated to raising money for the care of Tanner Young, 5.

Tanner the son of Verner Elementary School teacher Nicole Young and grandson of Riverview High School secretary Sandy Savinda, born pre-mature with cerebral palsey. In October, he also was diagnosed with Pantothenate kinase-associated neurodegeneration (PKAN), which is a fatal disease characterized by an abnormal buildup of iron in certain areas of the brain.

Though there is no cure, Tanner has been accepted to participate in a medical trial out west. This event will raise money to help  offset the cost of the treatment and Tanner’s eventual care.
