Last Saturday, Oakmont’s Riverside Park played host to the 10th Annual Riverview Relay for Life. Relay for Life is the main volunteer-driven cancer fundraising event for the American Cancer Society. Relay events are held across the U.S. and in 21 countries around the world. Teams pledge to walk continuously for a 24-period and raise money for cancer research and patients. The world-wide effort estimates that it has raised over $3 billion in around 25 years of existence.
The event is Oakmont is one of the stellar examples of this commitment as it has reached its 10 year anniversary and shows no signs of slowing down. This year’s event featured live music, helicopters, a variety of children’s activities and luminaria ceremony, while going on to raise over $100,000.
Edgewater manned a tent during this year’s resounding success, and looks forward to helping ensure that next year’s event builds on this accomplishment.
